Overview
Chromatin was founded in 2000 and is headquartered in Chicago, IL, where it has both office and laboratory facilities. The company has also recently significantly expanded its lab facilities in Champaign, where it also has greenhouse operations.
Chromatin has successfully developed and marketed breakthrough gene stacking technologies for improving any crop. Chromatin’s patented mini-chromosome technologies enable the development of new seed products and the delivery of multiple genetic traits into any plant. This technology platform offers a number of benefits, including more efficient and faster product development timelines, lower costs, and the prospect of streamlined regulatory approval processes.
Chromatin is now developing and commercializing a portfolio of proprietary sorghum feedstocks targeted at the renewable energy sector. Using a phased approach over time, the company is using technologies such as compositional analysis and screening, marker assisted breeding, and gene stacking to deploy and ultimately optimize sorghum as a purpose-designed feedstock for bioprocessing applications.
